Welcome to our inaugural season. We have been thinking long and hard about how we wanted to present ourselves to the St. Louis theater community and what we wanted to say with our first season. Ultimately, we settled on what is core to us in Glass Elevator: helping to develop original work and showcasing our own original work.

To start, the first iteration of our Ground Floor Series. St. Louis is home to a treasure trove of wonderful playwrights creating exciting new work, and we want to help those artists get their work seen. With this series, Glass Elevator will work with a local playwright to workshop and develop an original script over the span of a few months that will then be presented with a public staged reading. Next, another first. We’re offering our take on the theater tradition of holiday shows. Our holiday? Halloween. All of us in Glass Elevator are horror fans at heart, and we’re excited by the challenge of generating fear in live theater. How do we respond to fear in a crowd? Let’s find out. Our first will be a devised show tentatively titled: Vampire Dating Show:

The Leanhaun Shee, a captivating and dangerous vampiric mistress, becomes the central figure in a macabre parody of a dating game show. Set in a surreal, gothic studio, three artists compete for her affection, unaware of the full extent of the consequences. Each round reveals their deepest fears, artistic obsessions, and willingness to sacrifice for inspiration—or survival.
